Once upon a Time…
there was a Sacred Mountain
who had 15,000 kids.

Mt. Diablo lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, in the Concord and Walnut Creek of Northern California. In 2018 the MDUSD Education Foundation www.mdedf.org invited Mark Lewis Wagner (founder of DoE) and Drawing on Earth to visit all 30 elementary schools in the district to chalk draw on the playgrounds. Every single students get to experience themselves as artists – thats 15,000 kids.

With the end of the school year 2019, we’ve worked with 20 schools and 10,000 kids. It’s been epic and amazing, too much fun, and tons of art. Drawing on Earth raised money to buy 18,000 pieces of chalk for the project – thank you to all the donations!

The playground gets cleaned of debris and a beginning idea of a drawing begins. We use the school’s power animal (mascot), either a big collaborative piece or a trick 3D anamorphic chalk drawing.

Visit our blog for more info about the project.
