Hello Everyone,
Gather ‘round for a little end-of-year tale from your friends at Drawing on Earth…
Once upon a time (okay, it was this year), a tiny creative arts nonprofit roamed the world with pockets full of chalk and hearts full of wild beasts and ideas. Fueled entirely by the kindness of friends, family, and folks like you, we set out again and again to bring giant, joyful art to kids and community everywhere. And now, as the sun finishes another lap around the sky, it’s time for our annual tradition: asking for a bit of magic—also known as donations $$$. THANK YOU to everyone who has ever helped us keep the chalk lines laying down.
Our adventures so far? Oh, just a casual 40,000 kids covered in color, two World Record chalk drawings, murals and masterpieces on three continents, and six enormous artworks seen from space – aka satellites. Yes, pretty amazing!
What do we use your support for? Chalk (mountains of it). Art supplies. Insurance (because kids + chalk + big ideas = insurance). And this year, we mourned the heroic crash of our brave little red camera drone. A moment of silence… tears, thank you. We’re now exploring repairs—or a new flying friend.
And then there’s our beloved annual tradition: the Mark Lewis Wagner painting raffle. This year’s original artwork is a beauty. Tickets are $25. Buy one, buy many, buy enough to summon the raffle spirits in your favor.
Now let me tell you about 2025—a year that tried to sneak up on me with burnout. I nearly whispered to myself, “Maybe it’s time to step back…” But then the world politics shifted in a not-so-funny way, and something tugged at my sleeve and said, “Kids need art now more than ever, the future needs creative kids. Keep going.” And then my own kid, Zoe P Wagner, chimed in with, “Let’s make some bigger chalk drawings.” So we did. Together we brought art to about 6,000 elementary students in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. We even set a new record: 200 kindergarteners drawing at the same time, like a tiny, colorful art army. Honestly, the secret was simple: put chalk on the ground and crank up the music. (Our Spotify Playlist for Creative Spirits helped.)
Later, in the enchanted lands of New Mexico, the Questa Arts Council handed us a magical quest: “Would you paint murals on dumpsters?” they asked. “Absolutely,” we said. We were given two mighty dumpsters to transform. The first one we tackled with 60 kids, ages 5–12—many holding paintbrushes for the very first time. You should have seen their faces when the colors and the birds came alive.
Proud to be part of the Creative Evolution of the Planet!
Heart Felt Thanks!
